To the Hamilton Family.....

The thoughts, love and prayers of Chicago are with you.....It was a privilege to meet Shirley, and I have to tell you that the occasional late-night call from her was always a delightful surprise.....we'd have a delightful conversation and I invariably felt as if I'd won some sort of lottery afterwards..."I got to talk to The Queen!! I got to talk to the Queen!!" I would say to Todd. She was quite regal, as well as a scamp (a heady and alluring combination), and her Legend will live on forever in the history of Chicago.

We none of us would be where we are without this brilliant, brave, witty, wonderful human being. Shirley was a light, an example, and a joy. She's in the blood of this community. She cannot be removed from it. And thank god for that. Much much love to the whole extended Hamilton family.
